Pam's Daily Wave...

Good Morning....and Welcome to the Weekend 😊

Winnie the Pooh was a staple for children when I was growing up in Scotland, and I so loved the stories. Looking back on the tales as an adult, I realize how many important messages were contained within those pages.

Born in Hampstead, London, in 1882, A.A. Milne was a playwright and poet. Christopher Robin, the boy in the Pooh stories, was based on Milne's son (Christopher Robin Milne) and Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eyore, Piglet et al, were actually his son's stuffed animal toys.

The particular quoted that I opened my blog with, is one that I have carried with me for many, many years. I even have the message on a plaque in the reception of the inn, so guests can read it when checking in.....A simple reminder šŸ’—

The words of wisdom weaved through the pages, although written for children all those years ago, in an uncomplicated way, can provide such important guidance for us today.

I thought I'd list a few...

  • ā€œA hug is always the right size.ā€ - Pooh

  • ā€œThe things that make me different are the things that make me, me.ā€ - Piglet

  • ā€œSometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.ā€ - Pooh

  • ā€œA little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference.ā€ - Eyore

  • ā€œYou can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.ā€ - Pooh

  • ā€œWhen you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.ā€ - Pooh

  • ā€œIf the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.ā€ - Pooh šŸ˜„

In my first leadership role at work (which is way too many years ago!!!), I jokingly bought the book "Winne-the-Pooh on Management and Problem Solving"....but it actually was pretty useful šŸ˜‰...and I still have it, although a little worn now. During my career I successfully managed so many individuals and teams, ultimately responsible for over 400 people in my role at Duke. So maybe Winne the Pooh should be required reading...

Now I have the fun of managing myself and my crazy adventures.....which can be a lot more difficult than managing 400+ people in clinical research!

Until next time,

Take care, Stay Safe....and give yourself a hug - You deserve it šŸ’—

Hugs,

Pam

Yes, delightful! Thanks! I will be on Hatteras Island next week, Pam! Hurrah!

We will be at Great S'Cape in Buxton and attend the wedding of Eddie's

youngest daughter, October 14th at Salvo. I am excited as a child and as

philosophical as Pooh!
