Pam's Daily Wave...

ree

Good Morning 😊

I thought I'd start today with this beautiful and insightful quote from "The Boy, The Mole, The Fox And The Horse", a 2019 bestselling illustrated book by Charlie Mackesy (one of my fav. little books). This particular one embodies my theory that absolutely everyone is born with their own special talent....for some this is recognized early in their childhood - child prodigies are a great example of this phenomenon. Often their talent is noticed by their parents or teachers, and greatly encouraged, which is wonderful......but for most, their talent may remain hidden, only to be found by accident later in life.... or even more sadly- never uncovered.

Often we look at others who excel in their sport of choice, or in their chosen field of study, and think these people are "gifted", but what if you thought about it another way.....What if it's simply that they have "found" their unique talent? Wouldn't that change things dramatically?

How often have you thought you're not particularly good at anything, or that you are a "jack of all trades"....just "okay" at many things? What if you had underestimated yourself all along?

There are many reasons we don't discover our talents early on - not everyone has supportive parents or schooling, there may be other priorities in our lives that prevent us spending the time getting to know ourselves a little better....maybe you couldn't afford to go to school.....or buy the expensive equipment your particular sport required....you were discouraged from "wasting your time" learning something new or deemed frivolous. I could go on the list of reasons is rather lengthy.

When working in my previous leadership roles, I always encouraged the new leaders I was mentoring, to never underestimate the talents and skills of the people in their teams, regardless of their current role. You have no idea about the personal circumstances that led that person to their current career path, why they are in the position they are in. Instead of looking for the part of their job that they may not be particularly talented at - look beyond that....at the thing/s they are good at, the tasks that make their face light up and their eyes sparkle....and focus on what that is, you may just be tapping into a great skill or talent they have. Remember every single person "brings something to the table"....it's should be our role to help discover what that is and encourage it!

Maybe, just maybe, you have yet to discover Your unique "gift" to the world.....wouldn't that be incredible? And what a fun adventure you could have getting to know yourself even better and uncovering your special talent 😊

Until next time,

Take care, Stay Safe.....and good luck discovering You!

Hugs,

Pam
