Good Monday Morning 😊 and welcome to a new week!
As it's Monday, I thought I would give you a mug of sunshine that I caught just for you this morning!
Apologies for the tardiness of my post, I spent a little more time than usual on the beach this morning...my coffee tasted even better than usual (might have been the radiant sun that I caught😉).......as the morning introduced itself to me. There are definitely some days you just need a good coffee and a dose of Vitamin D.

And, I don't know about you, but some days I really do hope I find the things listed above in my coffee 😎
Monday mornings get such a bad rap....it can't help that it follows the weekend. It even has its very own emotion - that "Monday morning feeling"! It's not just that, for some of us, it's the start of the work week - some attribute our Monday morning blues to "Social Jetlag". So, what the heck is social jetlag:
"Social jetlag is defined as the time difference between the midpoint of sleep on workdays and on free days, and it is a consequence of the discrepancy between an individual's own biological rhythm and the daily timing determined by social constraints"
In other words, it's when we break our normal weekday routines - often we eat more, drink more, sleep more, relax more....all which sounds good to me, but it does take many of us out of our normal weekday patterns. So, you're not just imaging you feel a little less enthusiastic on Monday mornings, it now has a fancy name "Social Jetlag".
To combat this feeling, it's a good idea to plan your Monday, as opposed to setting your alarm for the latest possible time you can get up.......then hitting the Snooze button several times....also a big no, no. I have another great reason why you shouldn't do that, and it's another fancy name...."Sleep Inertia"
"Sleep Inertia is that feeling of grogginess and disorientation that we experience upon the first few moments of waking. Hitting the Snooze button repeatedly disorients your body, raising the chances of this sleep inertia extending two to four hours into your morning."
The Snooze button used to be one of my best friends in the morning, next to dark glasses and copious amounts of coffee. So, every time I hit that little button on my phone alarm clock, I set myself up for another few hours of fuzzy-headedness...just what I needed, especially on a Monday morning.
So, digression for explanations over....and now back to how I combat my Monday morning feeling 😊.
After a weekend of activity (and occasional over-indulgence), I make sure I know what my Monday will look like for me - appointments I may have, deadlines I have to meet etc. I plan to get up early enough to give me some time to myself (vital to my sanity!!) and allow some oh s*** time, in case things don't go to plan (this inevitably happens on a Monday).
Knowing I have these things covered.....I can then then unwind, relax and enjoy my Sunday evening.
It's amazing the difference a little Sunday planning made.....it certainly made my Monday mornings, as a Senior Director at Duke University's clinical research institute, a little more palatable - and the bucketful of coffee also helped.

These days, I have completely different stressors, owning the inn - running a business for the first time ever.....not having a regular salary, benefits or 401k etc......but then I have my beautiful and inspirational ocean 365 days a year - and that's definitely an adventure I'm glad I decided to pursue 😊

Wishing you a wonderful week!

Take care, stay safe and remember to give yourself some "me time"
Hugs,
Pam
