Me and my blue marble 💗

Good Morning and Welcome to Sunday from my Atlantic Life in Hatteras 😊

So, why the blue marbles????

In my last blog, I left you with these parting words...

"For now, I have stocked up on some beautiful blue marbles.....more on that tomorrow"

You may well have been thinking I had lost my marbles....

Firstly, apologies for not posting yesterday, we have had a busy (and incredibly fun!) week at the inn, spending time with some truly wonderful "old friends" from last year and making "new friends" with some awesome guests that we were super fortunate to have stay with us here at the inn this past week. Again, I am reminded of one of the reasons (as you know I have several 😉) that I love my life here in Hatteras, owning the inn gives me the phenomenal opportunity to meet so many absolutely fantastic people!!

Now back to my marbles, that I promise I haven't lost, in fact I have just bought rather a lot of recycled blue marbles...

If you read my blog post on Friday, I spoke about an incredible book I had just read (multiple times)

ree

- "Blue Mind by Wallace J Nichols - The surprising science that shows how being Near, In, On or Under Water can make you Happier, Healthier, More Connected and Better at What You Do",

For those who haven't heard about the "blue marbles", at the end of the book, there is a chapter entitled: "A million blue marbles" that opens with...

"It begins with a small, round piece of glass", and goes on to tell the story of the "blue marble" photo that was taken by the "Apollo 17 crew and how the concept of his "million blue marbles" was born.

ree

Our little blue planet...

That if you take a blue marble and hold it out at arm's length in front of you and look at it - that's what Earth looks like from a million miles away: a small, blue, fragile, watery dot. Bring the marble close to your eye and look at the light through it. Suddenly it's as if you're beneath the water. If the marble were made of seawater, it would contain trace amounts of virtually every element, larvae, single-celled creatures - in that one spoonful"

During a talk he was giving years ago, Wallace J. Nichols went on to say " Now, think of someone you're grateful for. Perhaps someone who loves the water, or is helping keep the planet's waters clean and safe and healthy. Or just someone you are grateful to have in your life. When was the last time you told them you appreciate them, if ever? Think of how good it would feel to you and to them if you randomly gave them this marble as a way of saying thank you"

Nichols then goes on to say: "When you get the chance, give it to the person you thought of. Tell them the story of what this marble represents - both our blue planet and your gratitude. Ask them to pass the marble along to someone else. It's a reminder to us all to be grateful, for each other and for our beautiful world".

What an incredibly beautiful concept, I've always tried to show my appreciation for the things that people do for me and for those around me, so this idea of giving a little piece of blue glass, not only as a reminder of our miraculous little blue planet, but can also be used as a token of our love and appreciation for another, to me is simply mind blowing.....it's so easy, but so absolutely beautiful 💗

Although this concept was born years ago, I have decided to adopt this idea and, like many things that I embrace, I'm all in 😉.

My blue marble ocean...

So the marbles are bought.....I have already given a few away....and am looking to give so many more away! I also carry a blue marble with me wherever I go, as a reminder of how fortunate I am to live on and love my watery planet. As a child of the ocean, I can reach into my pocket, pull out my marble and "see" a little piece of my world, and it simply makes me happy. This way I will always have a blue marble to give away when I feel I want to let someone know I'm appreciative of them....or maybe just as a reminder to them of how blessed we are to be alive on our little blue planet.

I also now have a blue marble on the dashboard of my car that I can see at all times....a beautiful little blue reminder to me 🥰

Until Next Time...

Take care, Stay Safe and....take a little time out today to think about our beautiful, little blue planet....and who you would give your token of appreciation to.

Love and Hugs,

Pam

PS. Our little blue planet has many, many people who need our support, positive thoughts and prayers....people like those in the Ukraine and other areas of conflict throughout our world, so I'll be continuing to keep them in my thoughts and prayers 🙏

Love the pictures and the thought of the blue marbles. I got my book yesterday and can't wait to start reading it!! I would love to know what your tattoo says. I think I see an EKG tracing in there.

Thank you for reminding me of this book and the blue marbles. I bought Blue Mind at Buxton Books years ago and read it then but have forgotten it enough that you have inspired me to reread it! I do remember when reading it I felt as though it was written about my deepest soul and how I always feel more at peace and complete near water, especially the ocean.
